ADAPTED SPORTS CENTER

Our program of snow sports and activities is centralized in La Molina, although we work in any part of the planet where a snowflake can be found. The goal is to educate through sports. We aim to raise awareness, which is why these courses are addressed to both people with and without a disability. Play&Train plans, educates, train, provides the equipment…briefing, we do everything possible to make the snow the best place for learning.

The cable-car is the ski resort reference point. It gives access to the highest part of La Molina. It goes up a vertical drop of 700 meters reaching the altitude of 2.340 meters at the top, where you can make out the entire panoramic of La Cerdanya. The trip in cable-car lasts 15 minutes, and a few meters away from the exit there is a wind rose that provides a panoramic vision of the whole region. The cable-care is adapted for people on a wheelchair.

WINTER ACTIVITIES

MONO-SKI and DUAL-SKI

The skier sits on a seat (different sizes) made of fiberglass and padded with moldable foam. This seat is fixed to a chassis with a suspension that is connected to one or two skis, depending on the disability and balance of the user.

Skiing can be practiced autonomously with the help of Stabilos (crutches with a little ski at the end, also called crutch-skis) to secure balance, turns and motion on flat areas.

It is specially designed to use drag lifts in a completely autonomous way. At the beginning, a stick of assistance or piloting is placed at the back, enabling the guidance of an instructor.

Skikart

Karts do not require balance or stabilizers and are stable both at rest and while sliding. Two levers placed at the height of the waist help handling the skis.

It is conceived particularly for people with high medullar injuries, with no balance and/or strength in their arms or hands and also for those with other kinds of impairment that imply a difficulty to manipulate the Stabilos. The movements made by the skier depart from his arms and hands thanks to the two levers, which connect directly to the skis. The person who handles them can control speed, turn and stop. The instructor skis behind the user connected with a life-line to assist in drag lifts and help slowing down or stopping if it is necessary.

Baquette

The skier goes on a fiberglass seat with a high back and two skis underneath, which give him more stability and maneuverability. It also has a piloting bar so that the instructor can direct the movement of the chair.

This modality is designed for all sorts of disabilities and specially conceived for people in situation of great disability or with multiple disabilities.

Tándem

The skier sits, leaning back, on a very comfortable seat that is connected to a chassis with a suspension and an elevation system used to take the drag lifts. Two skins, separated in order to gain stability, are connected to it. The instructor pilots the tandem with handlebars, which are attached to the seat. The fact that the skier’s position is very close to the snow gives him an amazing gliding sensation.

This modality is suitable for all kinds of disabilities and particularly for people in situation of great disability or with multiple disabilities.

3-Track SKIING

Three-track skiers use a regular ski and two long outriggers Together they form three fulcra on the snow.

This modality is recommended for people that have undergone the amputation of a lower limp, have poliomyelitis or hemiplegia.

4-Track SKIING

Skiers with scarce mobility and balance in lower limbs have this modality of adapted ski available. Four-track skiing involves the use of two skis and two outriggers. In some cases, we can also use two supporting devices connected to the skis’ skates and/or spatula in order to keep them in a descent position and prevent their crossing. This provides more balance to the skier.

This modality is suitable for people with cerebral palsy, incomplete medullar injuries, multiple sclerosis, brain injuries or low amputations in the lower limps. Those who walk with the assistance of crutches or a cane are also candidates for this form of skiing.

skiing for visually impaired

Visually impaired skiers practice this sport with a companion or guide. A communication code is established between them: the guide goes ahead the skier and describes the land, its variations and the directions taken while he descends.

The understanding between them is essential, since the first becomes the eyes of the latter. The two skiers have to pull together and descend as if they were one.

People with enough residual vision follow the guide, who skis a few meters ahead, visually. The skier needs to follow him precisely, trying to step on the tracks left by the guide’s skis. When the skier is completely blind, the speed has to be lower, for their only orientation is sound. They follow the voice of the guide, which is amplified by a speaker attached to his back.

SNOWSHOES

These devices are hitched to the boots and are used to move more comfortably and faster on surfaces covered with snow or ice. We offer individual and group guided tours through several locations in the ski station.
